Iosif Andriasov composed his Concerto for French Horn and Symphony Orchestra in 1975, in Moscow, USSR. The USSR Ministry of Culture offered to acquire it, and the Symphony Orchestra of the USSR All-State Radio and Television under Maestro Gennady Cherkasov with soloist Victor Galkin planned to perform it. However, because of the conflict with Soviet authorities, Mr. Andriasov refused to sell and to perform this Concerto.

The Concerto for French Horn and Symphony Orchestra represents some of the best qualities of a virtuoso concerto genre: a concertante, an improvisatory style, virtuosity, and a contest between the soloist and the orchestra. The orchestra is treated simultaneously as a symphonic unit and an assembly of virtuoso groups. In his Concerto, Iosif Andriasov intensifies the theatrical element of the music. The Concerto consists of two movements.
