Iosif Andriasov wrote his Concertino for Clarinet and Symphony Orchestra in 1973. The Concertino for Clarinet and Symphony Orchestra, Op. 27 is in two movements. For the first movement, Iosif Andriasov borrowed the music from his Musical Sketch for Oboe, Vibraphone and String orchestra, Opus 5. For the second movement, Mr. Andriasov used the music of his Sonata (Rondo) for Violin and Piano, which he composed during his Moscow Conservatory years. Despite their different styles, these two movements complement each other well.

Iosif Andriasov said that the first movement of the Concertino is associated with Niko Pirosmani (1862-1918), the great Georgian painter-primitivist. Niko Pirosmani attracted the composer’s attention because of the painter’s tragic fate and his unique style of austerity. The second movement is connected with Sergei Prokofiev, because of its spontaneous gaiety and humor. Niko Pirosmani and S. Prokofiev reflected two sides of Iosif Andriasov himself: the timeless beauty of his inner spiritual world and a glorification of the joy of life.
